SOPHIA - Saguaro - Old Pueblo Harpers in Arizona

Welcome!Girl with Harp

SOPHIA was started in 2005 as the Tucson chapter of the International Society of Harpers and Craftsmen called the Old Pueblo Harpers. The Old Pueblo Harpers were originally a group of players, teachers, and students wanting to share their music, ideas and skills to further the musical capabilities of the folk harp. . Eventually we expanded our membership to include pedal harpists and professional harpers and harpists by joining the Old Pueblo Harpers with the Saguaro harpists - the Tucson chapter of the American Harp society.

Our activities include promoting the playing and enjoyment of harp music, workshops, competitions, attending local harp events, and sharing our knowledge and experience with each other.  We meet monthly.

We are a diverse group, welcoming all who are interested in harp music. Whether you enjoy a formal concert setting,  ethnic or traditional music faire, the challenge of building instruments, performing, teaching, playing for yourself on a winter day, or all of the above, you are welcome to join us.

Our Mission

  - Promote the playing of the harp by all
  - Provide opportunity for learning of new harp skills to the harp community
  - Promote education about and public awareness of harpists and harpers
